Renaissance Festival

This weekend my friends and i made a trip to the Renaissance Festival for the first time. As you walk through the gates you immediately feel like you have been put in a time machine. you start to smell the incense that is burning through out the grounds of the festival. We didn't realize how intense and serious many of the shop keepers are about what they are doing and their parts. They fully transform into lord's and lady's. there are so many shows and attractions to see. There was actually not enough time for us to cover all grounds and shows during our visit. Everyone is dressed up in old clothes and speak like they did back in those days. What was surprising was that everyone was so nice, you get an immediate feeling that they are all like one big family. What was very entertaining were the hecklers. They will not leave you alone, whether its to pressure a man into buying a rose for this partner or simply just to pick on someone (nicely) for the fun of it. There is something there for everyone, sword shops, shoes, costumes, dancers, shows, pottery, jewelry, candles, incense, clock shops etc. there are also elephant and camel rides if you have the stomach for the smell. There are also the Lama's for the younger ones.  By far the best part of the whole thing was the variety of delicious foods from all over. We felt like all we did the whole day was eat. By the end of the day we were all stuffed from trying everything out. I would recommend that anyone free this weekend should go check it out since it is the last weekend until next year!

Flying Saucer

This weekend my friends and i went to Flying Saucer, which is located in downtown Houston. It is a two story building that seems to always draw a crowd. There are many bees to choose from, around 200 between bottles and draught beer. The ceiling and walls are covered in plates with peoples names on them, these people being the brave ones that had consumed every beer at the establishment. The staff were wonderful. The menu was good and had a lot to choose from. The beer list is what impressed me more than anything. So for any beer lovers out there this is the place for you. the bar was fully packed so we got a table instead. Tables were hard to find as well so be sure to get there early enough on the weekends. The upstairs is furnished with couches as well as tables and bar stools. This place is great to watch any kind of sporting event. There are TV's and projector screens all over the place. at around 9p.m. during the weekends there is a door man that checks I.D meaning it is only 21 and up after certain hours during the weekends. This place is child/family friendly but during the night time it is impossible to find any children around. Flying Saucer is a GREAT place to spend some time with friends and enjoy the beer. There are bands that play on Saturday nights and monthly beer specials.

Eddie V's, located at the City Center off Beltway 8 and Interstate 10, is an upscale seafood restaurant with a variety of dishes to select from. They get fresh shipments of oysters and crabs on a daily basis from all over the states. The section of wine is endless as well. the atmosphere is gorgeous and very classy. Although it is an upscale restaurant formal attire is unnecessary. There were a mix of people dressed casually and dressy. The bar area is relaxed and equipped with a 3-man-band every night. Once you enter the dinning area the sound of the music is cut off. Although the bar area is filled with chatter and music, there is no doubt you will be able to hear the person sitting next to you without yelling over the noise. If you are an oyster lover this is the place to be, they have twelve different kinds of oysters to select from. The bartenders are great and are able to make killer bloody Mary's. I would recommend this place for anniversary's, dates or simple dinner. It has an amazingly romantic feel to it. The prices are reasonable considering the quality of the restaurant and what it serves. and after dinner there are plenty of great bars around the City Center for a few drinks after dinner. Loved the place!!

AMF bowling!

Well this weekend my friends and i decided to do some bowling at AMF windfern lanes. As a less than frequent bowler, I as did my group, had a blast. The place didn't look a fancy neon lite area but had a very casual feel to it. AMF also had a full bar and a full finger food menu. When you first walk into the doors, it seem like you are walking into a 70's themed party. It has a very obvious old feel to it, the staff also seem like they have been working there for a long time. I was amazed to see how many people owned their own bowling balls, which was a plus for us since we didn't have to look very hard for the lighter balls. The teams took their games very serious compared to my friends and I goofing off at the other lane. So if you are not a hot shot at bowling, expect the staff to come and check on you and your group regularly to help anyone out. And another plus: NO SMOKING inside!! I have had terrible experiences of people smoking inside bowling places...(YUCKY) The bartenders are friendly and the prices are reasonable. So next time your in the mood for a casual and fun night be sure to stop by AMF bowling, you and your group will be sure to have a blast!

Down here is a link to AMF bowling, check it out:)

The Armadillo

I went to the Armadillo located on Kirby this Saturday. It has a lovey rustic Texas feel and a great menu. There was live Texas country that started at 10 p.m. and got everyone on the dance floor. The staff was friendly. I would highly encourage anyone who is interested in a fun night to go check the place out. Good times!

Bubba's sports bar on Washington Ave.

Some friends and I went to Bubba's sports bar located on Washington Ave to watch an MMA fight Saturday night. The place was great, the food was great and the staff were wonderful. It had a definite rustic Texas feel to the entire place. The variety of University of Houston decor didn't hurt either. I recommend this sports bar to whomever is interested in low key and casual:) Enjoy!
